I think you could use some flare in your life.  Yes, you.  Each of these ridiculous little trinkets brightens my day.  I mean, who couldn't use a garden of tulips to plug in their external hard-drive? And everyone should sing Yellow Submarine while waiting for their tea to brew in my opinion.  Found on the always cheeky Fred Flare.

Pop Art

Pop art is like the bad-ass older brother of the fine art world.  It began in the 1950s as a British trend and made its way to the states in the form of Andy Warhol among others. Pop art has the ability to take elements of our culture out of context and infuse new life into seemingly ordinary objects.  It prompts us to think about the concepts that led to the conception of the piece, rather than the piece itself.  Pop art is making a presence in the decor world as well (not to mention, it's already October and that means the holidays are upon us).  Here are some of my favorites:

it's the freakin' weekend

So excited it's the weekend!  My goal is to get everything unpacked by the weekend so I can resume life as a normal person starting next week.  As a special treat to myself, I am going to attend the Alameda Flea Market on Sunday with my dear friend Kelley.  I'll be sure to give a full report on Monday.  Wish me luck in my quest for treasures!

After I posted about the lucite ghost chair here, I thought about what a great "small space solution" lucite can be.  Although the prices are not always so thrifty, lucite eliminates clutter in a room, and gives the illusion of openness in a small space.  Not to mention, it creates an effortlessly modern look.  For more affordable "lucite" (I put it in quotations because cheaper versions are typically plexi-glass, or some other plastic alternative), check out CB2.

Lexington Modern

I stumbled across Lexington Modern in my search for an affordable Panton chair (see image below).

Normally, this chair retails for $260 at the MoMA store, but at Lexington Modern, the affordable Panton can be purchased for $99!  I am definitely considering purchasing one for my desk.  Other famous designs are on the website as well, such as the Eames rocker.

Another one of my favorites is the Philippe Starck Style Louis Ghost Chair for $175.

Vanity Fair recently released the top 21 "Architecture Modern Marvels" created since 1980.  Each of the top 21 are staggering in scale, ingenuity, and beauty, but these are a few of my favorites.  See the entire list here.  It is no surprise that Mr. Gehry's museum made the number 1 spot.  For those of you who have no real affinity to architecture, you should at least check out Frank Gehry's jewelery line at Tiffany & Co.  Unconventional shapes and fluid geometry dominate the collection.  I covet.
