Look for Less

With summer officially upon us, I've been inspired by these lovely ladies when it comes to how to style shorts.  From casual to edgy, to work appropriate, these gals know how to rock 'em.  Plus, if you don't already have some shorts in tow for this summer...fear no more, here are my favorite thrifty finds from GAP, Asos, and Topshop.

Look for Less

I'm seeing classic blue jeans everywhere in street style looks these days.  I know wide legs are supposed to be back, but I'm thrilled to death that my classic Levi's are now at the height of fashion.  Plus, with this recent resurgence of patriotism I think this look is here to stay for the summer.  Get the look for less starting at $59.50 at America's favorite denim store: Levi's.

Don't get me wrong, I look forward to summer brights just as much as the next person.  It's the time of year when I cease wearing black, navy and gray, and add a bit of pep in my step with bright prints in oranges and pinks.  BUT, there are those calm, cool, and collected summer classics that I just can't stay away from.  Steve Alan's Spring 2011 collection is the perfect blend of California casual and classic staples.  Get the look for less with some of these picks.

I officially have yet another blog crush. Have you met Lucy Laucht, the lovely lass behind her self titled blog (you guessed it...) "Lucy Laucht"?  This girl has got style to go around, and I'm thinking I  need to imitate her classic layering and pile on a chambray over my trusty striped shirt.  Her look is perfect for cool mornings and is a brilliant transition into spring.  So run on over to her blog and get some killer fashion inspiration, I promise you won't be disappointed!

I love a good monochromatic look in the winter.  Plus, that biker jacket?  Yes. Please.  After this post, a friend of mine asked for a roundup of affordable leather jackets.  You know, the kind that when it suddenly starts raining you don't have to panic and run to the nearest shelter.  I have my trusty H&M biker jacket that I got for under $50 and has lasted through nights at the bar, heaps of rainstorms, and dance parties galore.  Sure the leather doesn't feel like butter, and I wouldn't recommend sitting close to open flames while wearing one of these bad boys, but they do the trick, and you don't have to be paranoid because you dropped $400 on one jacket.

Love this look

I'm attending a wedding this weekend in Michigan and the forecast is snow, snow, and more snow.  I'm not the best when it comes to dressing for cold weather, let alone a wedding in cold weather.  The above street style image of Joanna Hillman, Senior Fashion Market Editor for Harper's Bazar, is my inspiration of what to wear (sans the white dress, of course).  I'm going to be wearing a jewel toned dress similar to the one above with tights and booties for warmth.  I love this jade dress paired with coral and gold accessories.  It's bright, but season appropriate.  Topped with a leather jacket, and I'm set.  What are your go-to's for a cold weather wedding?  Any suggestions? (Plus let me know which of these hairstyles you like best for me to wear...thanks, Kim!)

Fall 2010: Girlie Details

Fall Trend #5 is Girlie Details.  Ruffles, lace and sheer fabrics, oh my!  These flirty pieces are perfect when paired with menswear and military looks to add contrast and versatility.  I recently went shopping with a friend and we had the best luck at Zara for finding fall trends at reasonable prices. Hope you all had a fabulous weekend...it was hot, hot, hot in the bay!

Fall 2010: Laces

Laces are everywhere this Fall.  From booties, to oxfords, these little numbers are prefect with warm chunky socks, or colored tights.  Looking at these photos makes me want to sip a pumpkin spice latte and stroll through some fallen leaves, no?

Fall 2010: Knee Highs

Fall Trend #3 is knee highs.  I am loving this cozy trend of knee high stockings.  A great alternative to tights and boots, knee highs are warm and cute.  Does anyone know if these stocking/socks actually stay up though?  I can't image how annoying it would be to be constantly pulling up those things.

Fall 2010: Camel tones

Installment 2 of Fall 2010 Fashion is all things camel.  As you can see, from skirts, to turtlenecks, to jackets, warm camel hues are everywhere this fall.  Camel is a great alternative to gray, and is sure to bring a bit more warmth into an outfit. After finding these photos, I'm thinking an A-line camel skirt is a much needed addition to my fall wardrobe.  Perfect with a turtleneck, tights, and boots, or flats and a trench depending on the weather.  Maybe I'll even be able to find a cape in camel.  Happy Wednesday!

Fall 2010: Capes

Happy Monday!  Here is the first installment of the Fall 2010 examples.  See the entire fall trend list here.  I love the effortless look of these cozy capes. Whether paired with skirts, tights, jeans, or slacks, capes are an excellent choice to keep warm during those chilly autumn mornings.

Fall 2010

Now that Labor Day is behind us and football season is upon us, it's time to get your fall wardrobe in full swing.  Fall is my favorite season.  I love the changing leaves, pumpkin spice lattes, and rich textures that are staples of autumn.  I am already loving Fall 2010's trends this season.  Some favorite must-haves include (all pieces under $100)...

1. Capes- A much chicer version of the poncho, capes are a great alternative to jackets and are perfect for layering.
2. Lace-ups- Whether they are boots, oxfords, or oxford booties, all shoes must have laces for Fall 2010.
3. Knee highs-While I typically steer clear of school girl trends, I like this look when paired with a structured mini, or even layered over tights.
4. Girly Details-Think lace, silk, and ruffles.  Girly details are perfect when paired with menswear pieces and other structured fall staples.
5. Camel Tones-An overlooked neutral that offers a much warmer tone than gray.  Camel looks best in rich fabrics like wool and cashmere.

Stay tuned for examples of each trend this entire month.  Who says I can't still go "back to school" shopping?

I love these simple outfits.  For me, they serve as great inspiration for items I already have in my closet.  Hopefully they evoke the same response from you.  I love seeing my seemingly boring wardrobe in a new light.  (I forgot where I found these images...please help if you know!)

How adorable is Lea Michelle's outfit?  I am loving the neutral palette with bright lipstick. Not to mention the billowing top with shimmery skirt provides the perfect contrast.  I am ecstatic that sequins and shimmer are no longer reserved for New Years Eve, but when paired with toned down basics, result in a great look for day or night. Get the look for less with these options (each item is under $100).

The double finger ring is an edgy way to add interest to this seemingly sweet ensemble.  Pairing a structured tuxedo jacket and bright red lipstick with the neutral basics provides the right contrast to keep this outfit from being boring and blah.  What are your thoughts?  Would you only wear sequins for night, or would you pair a shimmery skirt with boots for a daytime look?
