Pin it Forward- What Home Means to Me

I am thrilled to be a part of sfgirlbybay's Pin it Forward.  (and a HUGE thank you to Pinterest for creating this wonderful...but horribly addicting...website).

So, the million dollar question: What does home mean to me?

To me, home means retreat.  My home is my sanctuary.  My escape from the ills of the world and my place of safety.  Beyond that, my home is also a direct expression of my style.  A display of not only my originality, but also of my past, present, and future.

Here is a list of what every home should ALWAYS have:

Booze- Now before you judge me, hear me out.  What is a home without the people you love?  It just so happens that the people I love, also love to party.  This means, my home will always have party supplies (cough, booze, cough) on hand.

Well Organized Closet-When you have as many articles of clothing as I do, you have to keep them organized in order to find anything at all.  Someday I will have my dream walk-in closet (a la Carrie Bradshaw), but for now, color coordination by season will have to do.

Visual Memories- Surrounding my home with visual reminders of trips I have been on and fun times with friends always perks me up after a bad day.  I live for those special memories and love daily reminders of all of the fun times I have had.

Reading nook- As much as I love TV, a new episode of Glee will never come close to a good book (well, pretty close, but not quite).  I love getting all snuggled up in a comfy chair with a new book and reading my Sunday away.

Design- Design has always been a huge part of my life.  Fashion, architecture, and interior design have been my standby passions for as long as I can remember.  My fifth grade report on ancient cultures was on the practicality of Mesopotamian fashion.  During high school, I would sketch out Frank Lloyd Wright homes as a way to unwind after school.  In college, my structural engineering senior design project was do design a new dormitory. Unfortunately, my current job is not design related, so scouring design blogs and Dwell magazines will suffice for now.

Love- 'nuff said.

And now...my pinboard. Enjoy!
