Help a sista out!

via BeeLux
Lately, I've been feeling rather stagnant about the ole blog.  I'm not too sure what direction to take with it, and I am struggling to create a "Thrifty Gal" brand.  My original intent of starting this blog was to learn about the Blogger platform and figure out some basic HTML, but in the process, it has become a much needed creative outlet and has helped me develop my personal style beyond measure.  I still want to bring you thrifty alternatives in regards to fashion and interior design, but I am curious what other features you might be interested in as well.  Here are some ideas bouncing around in my head...

*thrifty product roundups (mostly home decor items/fashion trends)
*Etsy wish list
*mood boards (4-6 inspiring images that create a specific look)
*inspiring interiors (just pictures or with products to imitate the look)
*before and after interiors
*street style looks (just pictures or with pieces to imitate the "look for less")
*old is new (upcycling and DIY)
*products/artwork for a cause
*artists
*totally original content: photos of my outfits (probably just the clothes themselves....I doubt you will see me in front of the camera anytime soon), photos of my weekend, photos of interiors

I would totally appreciate you commenting below which of these features seem most interesting/useful, and PLEASE let me know what other features you might like viewing as well.  In creating a "Thrifty Gal" brand, I am struggling to find a happy medium between what my personal style is (modern, Scandinavian design, off beat prints and cuts, timeless menswear) with finding thrifty alternatives.  Sometimes I see an image that is super inspiring, but has nothing to do with finding "thrifty solutions".  What do you think?  Are there enough overpriced products being touted in the blog world, (and this is a refreshing alternative) or would you rather see my absolute favorites around the web regardless of price?  I am hoping your comments will give me just the right push I need to take this blog by the proverbial horns and direct it in a way that is the best reflection of myself.  My goal is to develop a unique brand that keeps readers coming back for more, and provides a focused message at the same time.  (Or, there is a pretty big chance I'll just look like a fool if no one responds, so help a sista out!)

  1. My personal preferences: before and after interiors, look for less, old is new, and original content. The one thing I find more useless about other blogs are Etsy roundups-I'm usually not going to purchase anything, and I prefer to read something useful to me. But these are just my likes/dislikes. Enjoy re-vamping your blog! =)

  2. Your blog is so lovely, I don't think you need to worry too much about it! You're already doing an amazing job at surprising us with great posts. But I'd definitely would love to see more street style looks, your before and after interiors could also include uncycling and DIY projects, and definitely post mood boards!

  3. Hi KC! I totally feel your struggles... but I love your blog because of the theme "thrifty solutions". I do think there are way tons of overpriced products (and blogs) out there and I really don't need to see another one. (Though I know they are good to look at for inspirations and keep up with trends, etc.) Anyways... from your list, I'd love to see street style for less, old is new, and inspiring interiors. I think this is also why I started my series "Twenty Dollar Mondays" (literally last week!).. seems like we are on the same wavelength! Good luck and can't wait to see what you will decide on!

  4. Hi KC! First off, I love your blog :) I love that it's a quick read and always includes something different and inspirational. I personally wouldn't mind seeing expensive items if you paired them with cheaper alternatives. Etsy wishlists are great because I find the sheer number of products on that website to be overwhelming; a condensed list of items would be nice. Finally, I would love to see "totally original content." You have unique style and I would love to see that directly incorporated into your blog. Keep up the good work, KC!

  5. my KC, i definitely can relate to the whole, "my blog feels stale...what new direction should i take?" mentality. it's tough, but i admire how you have already reached out to your readers to get them involved. so here are my two cents: i frequent your blog mostly because i love the imagery. you have a real creative eye, and the photos you post are just beautiful and inspire me to try and incorporate some piece of them into my own life. maybe there is a way that i can save an image (or part of an image) on your site? also, maybe you could also ask your readers what magazines/publications they frequently read to help you define your brand? for instance, my top mags are sunset, outside, and men's/women's health...i would be very interested to see images and activities on your blog that extend beyond the home, such as gardening (a thrifty girl needs her tips on starting a garden with a tight space and a tight budget!), outdoor sports and recreation, and day trips. so much to do in california, so little time! love ya and hope this helps :)

  6. Well, you know I am an avid reader - and I think you create amazing content that I find new, unique and interesting. If you wanted to add more thrifty roundups that would be lovely - but I would also love to know more about you! so personal content might be a fun thing to add as well! I hope that helps a little... xo

  8. Hello! i think that before and after interiors are a great thing to feature. It is fun to see how you can transform a space (especially on a budget) I also like thifty finds. Its nice when you come a cross a great roundup. While you have previously focused your energy on showing thrifty options I think its fine to show some of your wish list items too. people are interested in reading about you and what you like, thrifty or not. :)

  9. I actually love your blog as is! But I understand the need for a vamp up ;) Here are my fav ideas from your list

    *Etsy wish list
*inspiring interiors (just pictures or with products to imitate the look)
    *before and after interiors
*street style looks (just pictures or with pieces to imitate the "look for less")
*totally original content: photos of my outfits (I love seeing them on the blogger, it creates a connection with the reader. But I totally understand if you are camera shy;))

  10. Already love your blog... but for my 2 cents-

    My favs, possibly in order:
*before and after interiors... possibly more than interiors but don't know what...?
*old is new (upcycling and DIY) - both for decorating and clothing perhaps, how to revamp wardrobe with what you already have by new ways to wear it or something.
*street style looks - with pieces to imitate the "look for less"
    *products/artwork for a cause

Be cool if some of those categories could be original content. Your own look for less, DIY, B/A. And random real/personal life tidbits is always fun =)
